Case Studies
These are a few case studies to illustrate how GLTaC works closely with our customers to solve business problems and provide outstanding service.
Global Workstation Implementation
Problem: Replace 10,000 workstations around the world, with minimal interruption of work routines, no loss of data, and do it in four different workstation configurations in five languages.
Solution: Working in close cooperation with the client, GLTaC provided in-house translation and workstation testing support to produce all required documentation such as: User Guides, Quick Reference Cards and Installation Instructions. In addition, translators assisted the workstation configuration team with issues involving the creation of the installation scripts when foreign language operating system settings prevented them from troubleshooting.
Result: Implementation teams were able to process hundreds of workstations each day, swapping out computers while users attended familiarization training in their native languages.

SAP R/3 Implementation
Problem: Implement SAP R/3 using customized manuals with minimal impact to the business in several languages, while coordinating the project through a project leader change at the client in mid-implementation.
Solution: While a team of more than ten people authored training documents in English, GLTaC was not only translating the documents into the required languages, but also providing a thorough proofreading of the freshly created content. Due to the proprietary tracking system of GLTaC, we were able to provide the client with a detailed accounting of hundreds of documents at the end of the project within two hours of an audit request, ensuring all parties had the same record of the project status.
Result: The SAP implementation went forward on schedule with training conducted and materials available in native language format.

Thai "Mission Impossible"
Problem: A client needed 17,000 words in Thai delivered in less than 6 days, including the weekend, to meet a publication deadline. No single translator was able or willing to take the job.
Solution: GLTaC put together a team of Thai translators and split the job up among the team members, appointing a single translator to provide a quality control review and recombine the various segments.
Result: GLTaC delivered the translation on-time to a satisfied client.

So many documents, so little time and money
Problem: A literature search resulted in a large number of potentially significant technical articles and patents from China, Japan, Korea, Germany, France and Russia based on the English abstracts. The project budget and timing did not allow for human translations.
Solution: GLTaC applied a team of Machine Translation experts to the problem. The electronic PDF and hardcopy documents were first converted to text files. Next, the converted files were pre-edited by MT technicians to correct errors resulting from the conversion process. After completing the MT translations, a group of specially trained post-edit staff reviewed the documents and improved the quality of the MT output to the level specified by the client.
Result: The client was able to quickly review a larger volume of articles and patents in a much more cost-effective way than than would otherwise be possible through professional translators.

Have it your way
Problem: A client needed a large patent translated quickly, but wanted varying quality and cost levels applied to different portions.
Solution: GLTaC was able to translate the bulk of the document using Machine Aided Translation (MT with a human post-edit), and provide the patent claims and examples at the highest level of quality through the use of a human translator.
Result: A several hundred page patent translation met the client’s requirement in roughly one-third the time and cost of using a human translator to do the entire document.

24 pages overnight
Problem: Late one afternoon a customer sent a twenty-four page technical document they needed translated overnight for a meeting the following morning.
Solution: GLTaC applied our Kwiktrans
™ (MAT) technology to the document, which preserved the formatting of the original, including the graphics which were key to the understanding of the document, and completed the translation.
Result: The client had the translated document in their hands at the start of the next day in time for their meeting.
